Here Today… There will now be a brief hiatus

camping near here

I was going to set off to Scotland tomorrow, but a duff weather forecast convinced me that it would be a waste of time, so I’m spending Sunday packing and I’ll be setting off for Rannoch very early Monday morning.

This is the plan:

Monday: catch the 11:08 to Corrour. Walk a bit. put the tent up. Wait for a weather window and if there is one, bag a hill. I’ll be doing similar things for a couple of days whilst providing any passing TGO challengers with cups of tea or coffee. I’ve got 5 days supply of food. It’ll be very nice not to have to lug stuff around, but stay in one place for a while.

Wednesday or Thursday – Move to Ben Alder Cottage for more bagging

Saturday : Braemar.

Sunday: Tarfside to help with St Drostans.

Thursday: Montrose.

Saturday: Home.

I’m hoping to bag a few Munros and Marilyns and stuff, but the forecast for next week at least is poor.

You can leave comments, but after Sunday they won’t be published till I get home.

See me, I’m offski.

Eeek! (You should include an exclamation mark in your web name thingy by the way)
Superdawg won't be joining me on this one. When I leave in the morning I'm going to have to use the "I'm just nipping out, back in a mo" strategy to avoid causing howling.
Weather forecast is crap. I should take a book, I think....

Sounds like a good plan. Have fun! Hope the weather forecast is wrong and you get nice weather.

Thanks Maria - I hope you're right and its wrong. The countryfile forecast for the week was a bit less dire.
Travel in hope - thats the plan....

Have a good trip Mike. Sounds like a plan.
Looking at the forecast i would take a canoe and plenty of paracetamol for later in the week.

I'm taking a book, Alan - Scottish fairy stories (tam Lin and stuff like that...)
Week two will be wetter in many ways, I think..

Sounds an excellent plan Mike. I looking to take the train up to this area and do something similar this year, except I won't be handing out tea !
Have fun

Its a really nice area, Mark - just don't read "The Black Cloud" before you go (This book details a major hillwalking disaster here in the ?1950s - half a dozen fatalities due to a storm!)
