Hiking hiking hiking – a load o’ men walking up a hill

squish

The question I am asking myself at the moment is – shall I make a cup of tea, or shall I do a blog thing about how I have to buy some boots with little clue as to what to buy…..

I have a number of pairs of boots. None of these I consider suitable for the TGO challenge which I am about to launch myself on in about a week.

And, as they say in certain classic plays wot I ritt….Therein lies the rub. If I get this wrong, therein will definitely lie the rub. And the rub is not what I want.

I do want waterproof, though and I want immediate comfiness and I want warm feet. And I don’t want the things to dump me at random in a big snotty heap like with the last pair of boots used to do.

I will buy some on Tuesday.

I must admit……                   I have no idea what I’m doing……

I think I’d best make some tea….

Oh dear, oh dear, Michael.

We are leaving this a bit late, aren't we?
(My new shoes went for their first walk today...)

With those wants, Meindl might well be worth a look. V. nice comfy boots right out of the box, IME.

Plenty of time, Mike...
The Scarpa Infinities (Goretex lined of course) that I used only briefly beforehand managed a boggy, leak free week in Challenge territory recently, whilst last year I used Knoydart to break in a new pair of Asolo Fugitives (Goretex lined of course).
Don't expect the waterproof linings to last all that long, though!
[At last! There's someone else out there who admits to not liking wet feet on the Challenge!!]

Oh no! Two different opinions....
Aaargh....
But I've made a note of the three boots mentioned and will try to seek them out for a try-on when I raid Durham tomorrow......

Why not go to Richmond for some nice Altberg boots. Come in all sizes and even made to measure. Richmond has nice hills next door to start breaking the boots in.

I had some Altberg boots which were indeed very comfy. Unfortunately, they were made for somebody else and when they got them home, they didn't fit, so I got them. They fell to bits in short order (although I do give boots a bit of 'ammer).
Those Richmond Hills are my local ones by the way! (half an hour down the road)

Mike.
Obviously it's horses for courses. Choices are extensive.
If you have a narrow foot then go for the Infinities. If you are wide footed then go for the Meindl Air lite.
Both very comfy boots.

I did have a problem with the sole on the Meindl but my second pair seem ok and as Phil (Lord Elpus) has not blogged any problems i assume his are fine also.

Right - Ive made a note. This is me going off to Durham with a credit card.
My feet are fairly wide, I think, so I'll deffo have a look at Mendls if they have them.
